Planning a Multi-Yard Testing Day Across the GTA

When trucks are parked across several GTA yards, a successful mobile DriveON visit is mostly logistics: which units are due, who has the keys, and whether each yard is ready when the technician arrives.

Updated: July 17, 2026

Confirm Which Units Are Due

Start with a confirmed list of VIN / unit numbers that actually need an emissions inspection under Ontario's RGW and registration triggers. Do not mix safety-only units into an emissions route unless that is intentional and scheduled separately.

Prepare Each Yard

Vehicle Readiness

Each vehicle should be prepared to reach normal operating temperature at its scheduled inspection time, following the manufacturer's operating guidance and the technician's instructions. Do not organize the entire route around which truck has been idling longest in an attempt to influence the result. Preparation does not guarantee a specific opacity outcome.

Procedure note

Ontario uses SAE J1667 snap-acceleration opacity testing for qualifying heavy-duty diesels. The authorized technician performs the procedure with approved equipment.

Plan the Route

Group yards geographically to reduce dead-mileage between stops. Confirm arrival windows so units are present and ready. Sequence locations by confirmed availability first, then by geography.
